The Mighty Pen #14

The Mighty Pen flash fiction contest is a just for fun writing contest (inspired by my wonderful husband). I post the beginning of a story – and you post an end!     "I thought--" Katie said, disappointed, if not a tad bit irritated. Okay, really irritated. She'd made the trip all the way from Lower Manhattan only to discover that the doors were locked. Locked! "This is going to totally effing ruin my science project that's due Monday. I've only got two days. This sucks. Mrs. Pennopopolis is going to kill me."

    Her short, slender companion, none the wiser, decided to kick at the door with his bare foot. Jeremiah never seemed to be found in footwear. Always the first to try on a pair of sandals, sneakers, flip-fops--you name it--but never one to actually keep them on his wide, stubborn, hairy feet.

    "There's another way in," he said, grinning, leaning inward to examine the gap between the doors.

    "Oh, yeah, how?"

    "Like this."

    And in a finger snap they became vapor--immaterial tufts of odorless cotton all too easily slipping through the crack.
