The Beginning

“And that is how it is done.”
ReplyDeleteCassie put her hands on her hips, scrutinizing the lump sitting on her kitchen table that was supposed to be her niece’s birthday present. The white paper with little pink bears was crumpled around the gift. Henry had spent the last few minutes adding almost an entire roll of tape to keep the paper down. A smile graced her lips before the laughter began.
“What?” Henry asked. “Is it too much?”
He picked up the pink bow off the table and quickly stuck it to the top of the lump. Cassie pulled him in close, nuzzling her nose against his.
“I love it, sweetie.”
“What do you think about having one of our own?” he whispered.
“Of what? Messy presents?”
“No… a baby.”
Cassie laughed once, leaning in to give him a quick kiss before picking up the gift. “That’s how it’s done.”
“Wait… what do you mean?”
Henry chased her out into the front yard, scooping his wife up into his arms as she laughed. He kissed her gently on the lips. A beautiful surprise.
