"What? Did you really think I was going to turn into a mermaid or something? Idiots!" She glared at the small group surrounding her. They were such foolish men. She caught the gaze of her lover, Raul, who had sold her to these imbeciles--men of science, they called themselves. Bah!

"But, but..." Raul stuttered, shrinking behind Mr. Balding Scientist. "The salt in the bath tub, and...and that one time I found a green scale under the covers. You wouldn't tell me where you came from, that day I found you naked by the beach."

"Oh, wouldn't you like to know, eh?" She growled, her words vibrating low in her throat even after she stopped speaking. Steam rose from the top of her head as the water evaporated from the heat emanating from her body. Her golden skin faded, getting paler and paler until she turned colorless. What were once lovely blue eyes under soft lashes turned to slits of red. The men trembled, cowering behind Raul.

    "Wha...What are you?" Raul whispered.

"I am Amphitrite, the Goddess of the Sea." She swept her hand and a wall of water rose high above their heads.

  2. ...he removed the cover from her head and pressed his large hand firmly on her chest, holding her beneath the shallow water.

    She couldn't move.

As the water settled, she saw the blurred features of his face above her. If she had control of her body then she would have gasped but the drug paralysed her.

    It was hopeless.

Water began to fill her lungs, she was choking, drowning, as he watched her slip away.

    A last chilling thought, 'Dad?'

    Then everything turned to black.
