So, one of my awesome beta readers for Shadowed Stones (Roseanne) suggested that since the story is finished I should start sending out query letters. Unless of course I wanted to self-publish. That got me thinking.
My first thought was - after so many years of dreaming about being at this point I am here! Followed by alternating waves of excitement and fear.
Then I thought, traditional or self publishing. Which one? I considered self-publishing and did some research. My decision?
Traditional Publishing.
Why? Because this is my very first novel. And I feel a little overwhelmed by the thought of self-publishing right now.
This of course does not mean I won't self-publish later. I just don't think I am ready yet.
Well, that's it. My decision is to focus on traditional publishing for Shadowed Stones.
That's exciting! Good luck with the next steps.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I am still a little overwhelmed - but it helps to have a plan!
ReplyDeleteGoodluck, Krista! How exciting to be in that stage of querying for an agent. ;) I think I would have done the same--self-publishing is a little intimidating to me too. Probably 'cause I don't know much about it's process.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cherie. There are a few people in my local writers group that have either self-published or are in the process. Just listening to them talk about it makes me exhausted!
ReplyDeleteGood for you in making the right decision for you; and how wonderful - if scary - that we, as writers now have a choice.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck!
Cherie, I know. There are so many more chances for writers to suceed. Unfortunately, that means there are also more choices to make :)
ReplyDeleteThere are so many options now you have the ability to choose. I almost went with a boutique publishing house but realized it wasn't a right fit - just that one.
ReplyDeleteThere are great opportunities! Best of luck finding the one that's right for you!!!
Thanks Jen!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great idea to do traditional publishing! You can always have self-publishing to fall back on if it's hard to find an agent. I made my first book self-published and now I'm doing traditional.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! :)
Thanks Krista, I can always fall back on self-publishing. Still researching agents and how to write the perfect query letter.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on finishing your novel! Isn't it great to see all your hard work in a finished product?
ReplyDeleteGood luck during your query process. It's an exciting time - enjoy every step of it!
Go Krista! I think it's a good decision, and since you're ahead of me, you can help me out when the time comes ;)
ReplyDeleteKrista: Congrats on making a decision (it's one of the hardest parts, I think). Best of love with the process, and keep us posted on it, I love reading about how people reach the top from the beginning!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! I really appreciate the support. I will be sure to keep you all posted. I hope my experiances will be able to others who are just starting out.
ReplyDeleteWow! That's amazing that you are at this point. Way to go Krista!! And I whole-heartedly agree with your decision to go with traditional publishers. It is definitely the better one IMHO ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jillian. Took me long enough to get here, didn't it :)
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a novel as well ... good luck in your publishing quest. What an accomplishment to finish your book!
ReplyDeleteThat is great lafemmerora. Writing a novel is a lot of work, but so much fun!
